Int/Adv Modern Dance with Pablo Cornejo
Sundays 10-12 noon
Pablo Cornejo's modern class is influenced by his experience in many
forms of movement, from Andean folkloric dance and ballet to modern
dance, improvisation and contact. His class integrates this variety of
vocabularies, which focuses on full - bodied phrase work utilizing the

Intermediate Ballet with Violette Tucker

Explore and develop your articulate body, dynamic range and performance quality through full-bodied movement and sound structural fundamentals. Intermediate Modern Dance with Aiko Kinoshita
Thursdays 10-11:45am
Aiko's class is informed by contemporary ballet and modern dance techniques, somatics and release techniques, contact and improvisation. The class will encourage students to find confidence and joy in their own creative and physical potential while challenging them to find a greater range of expression through dynamic physicality and specificity. Students will explore new movement possibilities and work to increase their understanding of momentum and weight. They will also play with being upside down and right side up and moving in and out of the floor with ease. Full-bodied phrases full of motion, oppositional tension, and weight change will follow a simple warm-up that emphasizes clean technique and articulation of the body. Dances of the Iranian world with Heather Rastovac
Mondays 6-7:25pm
These ongoing classes will introduce the dancer to the graceful movements of Iranian/Persian dance - 'classical' Persian dance, regional dances of Iran, Persian social dance, and elements of Tajik dance.
Heather Rastovac has been studying and performing Iranian dances since 1997. She is an artistic director of Delshodeh, a local dance ensemble performing the dances of Central Asia, particularly the dances of Iran and Tajikistan. Heather spent two months in Tajikistan studying and researching dance during summer 2007 and is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree at the University of Washington in Persian language, Anthropology and Dance. As an instructor, Heather emphasizes connection of personal expression with the unique essence of each dance form, as well as strong dance technique. More information at Heather's blog.

Contemporary and Traditional African Dance with Etienne Cakpo
Wednesdays 10-11:30am AND Wednesdays 7-8:30pm
Etienne Cakpo is a professional dancer, choreographer and musician from Benin, West Africa. He teaches and performs traditional African dance from Benin as well as contemporary African dance styles, and has been building his dance repertoire for over twenty years. In addition to conducting personal research to learn regional dances and musical traditions in his country, Etienne has worked in remote areas of Benin with international ethnomusicologists, musicians and filmmakers. Currently based in Seattle, Etienne contributes regularly to the cultural arts community in Western Washington, and performs in solo events and group shows. He is director of Gansango Music & Dance.

Capoeira with Marcos Fernandes
Thursdays 5:30-7pm
"The beauty of Capoeira is that one never knows when the game will
turn into a dance, when the dance will turn into a fight or when the
fight will turn into a game. Capoeira is none of these things
individually but all of these things together." We welcome any
person who wishes to "play the game". Marcos has a degree in Physical
Education from Brazil. He first began teaching Capoeira in Cambridge,
England, and has been teaching in Seattle since September 2004.

Yoga by HinduYUVA, UW

Hindu YUVA is a non-profit student organisation at the University of Washington, Seattle. Everybody is welcome at our weekly yoga sessions. We concentrate mostly on asana practise but also try to include prananyama, meditation, chanting and discussing philosophy of yoga.
